All cam retainer plate threads stripped - budget solution?
Well what's the cheapest way to handle this? Because four helicoils = $80 and I don't trust myself with a drill in my block. If that's the only route then my friend could probably come through for me and help me install them but if there are any other options I'd love to hear them. I searched and found one other option that said to epoxy, maybe weld? a stud in there and that intrigued me but there was no results or proof of success.
Thanks guys
I heard Walmart is selling a cheaper version of the Corvette too LMAO
Drilling into the block is really not hard at all. Take your time, move slowly, and it will be fine. This really isn't a critical or high torque area, so it would be hard to mess it up.

This...coat your drill bit, and tap, with heavy grease...drill and tap SLOWLY...
You should be able to catch all the shavings that way.
You should be able to accomplish this task yourself without too much trouble.
Make sure you have a way to retrieve the HeliCoil drive tang when your insert is at the depth you need, and it's time to remove it.
EDIT: (If you swapped an LS into a "944" this will be a piece of cake...)
