Default Heads up for those running ported heads..

Well.. after much reading on the site and picking my brains to figure out why my car was smoking and burning oil. I've definitely found out what the problem is.

But in the course of finding the problem. I've done the following:

Ghetto PCV mod (fuel filters in the PCV line)
New Seals ( only $16 + shipping)
More Performance valve spring tool ($120 for nothing)

Only to find out that the problem was the big *** hole left at the bottom of the intake rocker bolt after porting and polishing.

I've done 3 pushrod swaps since my h/c swap, and two of the times I didn't use anything to seal the bolts when they were put back in. Well, during the course of a month without much driving my car had used 2qts.. It was also blowing blue smoke.

So for those burning oil after a h/c swap.. Learn from my mistake and buy some good sealant and seal your rocker arm bolts.

I'll post pics tomorrow of holes and my intake runners.

Sorry this is so long..

But can someone recommend a good sealer.

I was going to post about this as well. I burned about 2qts of oil in about 600 miles of driving after ported heads. I will try the sealer thing and hopefully it works.

It was totally weird the way the car would smoke so I knew something was up..

It would barely puff anything on startup, so I would think that everything was ok. There was no set amount of time before it was just totally start smoking. Now, I know that there was a delay in smoking because it took the oil a while to work itself past the bolts. Then all hell would break loose..

I filled the bottom of the hole in my heads with some aluminum oxide putty (kind of like JB weld but better) to not only seal it, but to also get rid of the hole so air would have a smooth surface to go over.
