2500HD Cam choice
coincidently I need a torque converter too.
So I figure if I have the motor out and need a converter anyway, I might as well do a cam and if necessary an ls6 intake, injectors, CAI and headers.
Any suggestions on a cam that preferably can be used with stock injectors, exhaust manifolds and the lq4 intake before I just sink a bunch of money into it and try to make a work truck into a race truck?
Cam - I'd do something in the 218/224 110 range. It'll run out of breathe pretty early, but in a big truck, you want as much grunt as possible, especially if you keep stock compression.
I'd run a Yank Truck Thruster 2600. You want something that can still be used to tow. This can do that.
I'd like to continue to be able to plow with this truck but I do ocassionally (rare actually) tow around 11,000lbs with this truck.
I was looking at the 212/216 .520/.524 111 IC. Should I go bigger?
I'd love to do something radical and sink a bunch of money into this truck because I don't have a race car anymore but realistically it's a work truck. I'll probably be doing a small cam, tune and calling it done.

Took my cam out today, the number 3 cam bearing shrunk tight to the cam journal. Block looks good but the machine shop will check it out for me when they are installing cam bearings.
Stock cam is a little chewed up on the 3rd bearing journal... I guess I found out my low oil pressure and grooved #4 & #5 main bearing cause.
Thanks a bunch guys. No point in not camming it now since I need a replacement cam anyway.
I however am keeping stock exhaust because it's a work truck for me and I could very well be plowing somebody's driveway at 5 AM or going on an estimate.
