Default Daily drive cam selection

Hey everyone just a cam question. My ls1 has 241 heads, I would like to keep stock stall its a a4 with 3.23 gears. Looking to gain 25-35 horses with a proper tune of course, would the '02' and up ls6 cam be a good choice, or the hot cam? I don't plan on touching the heads just want a little bump in power and not break the bank. ps I drive like 7 miles round trip to work and the occasional weekend cruise thanks

Hot Cam would be better than LS6. There are some aftermarket grinds that might work better, but the Hot Cam 218/228 112 is very close to what you want with a stock stall and a modest bump in power.

Just curious being the hot cam has smaller lift, compared to the ls6 cam, why would it be a better choice just curious? I know enough about cams to get me by.

Lloyd Elliot have two grinds that works really for this type of scenario...

First one is a 215/219 duration 604/607 lift on a 113 LSA- his description of this cam is called a "sleeper/torque monster". Gains of torque all the way from idle to 6000 rpm with a smooth idle.

Second cam that looks interesting is 223/227 duration 610/614 lift on a 112 LSA. Can be used with stock gears and factory stall. Mild idle with great all around power. 1500 to 6200 rpm.

If you on a tight budget I would recommend installing a trailblazer stall.

Lift is less important than duration/ valve events.

hell, the stock TC is too small for the stock cam.
if you can swing it,get a TC to go with the cam.3000 stall works good with a baby type cam.

Know you don't want to spend that much money.... The trailblazer stall I mentioned earlier in this thread stalls around 2500 rpm from the factory. That would be my choice for a budget converter.... I'm sure you can send the stall off to a sponsor here and get them to bend the fins in the converter and change the stator in the stall more more which would probably still be cheaper than buying a 900 dollar torque converter....

Well I guess this raises my other question about the ls6 cam. Would that be a good cam too I guess, especially on a tight budget. Also if I did lets say go with a trailblazer stall would that effect the tune with or with out a cam?

I'm sure any of the sponsors can steer you the right way. My baby cam in signature works well with the stock stall. I do plan on going to the FTI 2600 stall that goes for $330 but I have no problems with my stock stall and the cam I have in my sig. I have a higher lift because I have the heads to support it. Martin@Tick spec'd mine and I'm very happy with it.

If you look at FTI stalls they say that they work well with "220/220" type baby cam. That is why I started with a stock stall but knew I could go to a small stall with the cam I was spec'd. It all depends on the cam. A small cam works well with these stalls but will be ok with a stock stall.

cool its good to know they are a good converter. i looked at those back in the winter time when i had the car put away. also I have read to that a stall is a good mod to do even before a cam, I thought about stalling the car first because people said it changed the way the car launches and makes it a lot of fun. I might just throw in a 2800 stall from them guys first that is what they said i could use even with a stock motor.

you will love your TQ.I had the TR220 in my old Z/28,ran it with the stock stall for about a week.after the 3000 stall went in,it was a whole different animal.
