06 5.3 or 01 6.0 for my car
I need a little advice. I have a 5.3 out of a 2006 truck of some sort with 60k on it. It's not complete, i need front cover, some accessories, brackets, harness and ecu. I have part of a harness that came with it but it's hacked up. It needs a cam and lifters which I'd want to do regardless.
I may have a change to get a totally complete 6.0 with 170k out of an 01 truck of some sort really cheap. It's in a yukon denali. would it be the LQ9?
This would be going in a 71 a-body convertible with as yet undetermined trans, t56 or 4L80 and probably 3.73 gears. I want a nice reliable, quick street car.
I know the 06 5.3 is better than the earlier ones and this one is pretty low miles, but, is there any reason I should use the 5.3 instead of the 6.0? I have to pay body and paint work on the car so budget is important. If the 6 looks good I'll buy it anyway tho.
Thanks

If this has such low miles...why is it that far apart...???
It's good you already own it...but it sounds a little sketchy.
Bang for the buck , the complete 6.0L is your huckleberry...it's all there, (the little stuff ads up to complete your 5.3) plus the extra cubes are an added bonus...

I've had that happen...If you have time, hold out for the 6.0.
Or...do what I did with my A-body...I decided to install a 5.3 to get all the details of the swap ironed out...with the bonus of being able to drive it sooner than later.
I have my 6.0 on the engine stand now, and am building a forged bottom end as my budget allows...
I'll go 6.0 with some goodies.... cam, headers , tune, etc.
It don't take much to crack the 420 horse mark at the crank with a 6.0.

The only way I'd use a 5.3 is if it was going to be installed with a turbo at the same time. If you are staying all motor or doing nitrous, then definitely 6.0. If you want to boost it but will be N/A for a while and doing the FI later down the line, still go 6.0 so you have more N/A power to play with for the time being, and when you do go FI it'll take less boost to make the same power vs a 5.3. 6.0 FTW.
