Default cam and other upgrades for stock LS1

Hey all, looking to change the cam and supporting mods in my mostly stock LS1 (headers and tune). Its an m6 car with MWC fab 9, 3.73's, and monster stage 3.

Looking at the Tsunami cam (235/240 .622/.615), dual valve spring kit, 36 lb bosch fuel injectors, a TSP ported LS6 oil pump, and a cloyes Hex-a-just double roller with Z06 chain. Anything else I'm going to need to change or should change while its apart? Thanks for the help in advance!

Its got the stock intake for now, gonna try to snag a LS6 intake for a reasonable price when I upgrade the cam. Forgot to mention that.

Also, can anyone comment on the drivability of the tsunami cam? I have searched the forums and people talk about the numbers they are making, but not the street manners for the cam? Don't want something so aggressive that it stalls the car out at idle if i turn the AC on..

To be honest, that is a lot of cam for stock heads. Probably too much. That cam would respond well to compression, so if you are set on using it, milling your heads will help quite a bit.

You can find threads where someone had a 227 to 231-ish cam and then "upgraded" to a bigger cam only to run worse. The problem? Not well matched to the stock heads. If you really want something that runs hard on the entire RPM range, you need to invest in the heads. Look at the threads Tony Mamo has posted showing very high numbers with awesome heads and what many consider moderate cams.

If you are wanting to go cam only, check out the cam motion titan 4, VRX4 or the tick performance SNS V2. All three cams are in the 227-228/230-235 range with slightly different valve events. Try to find negative feedback on those cams.

You should also contact Kip at cam motion or Martin at Tick who are very good cam designers - the best in my opinion - and see what they have to say as well.

Bottom line, though, is it's all about the combination. If the heads and cam aren't well matched, it won't perform as well as it could AND driveability will suffer

Thanks for the info Darth, I understand the heads will be a weak link with a cam that size. After doing some more research, I have heard good things about the FTI streetsweeper HT cam as well. Its a 228/232 .612/.600 at 111 LSA. Seems to be close to numbers in the other cams you recommended. Any opinion on this cam with stock LS1 heads and an LS6 intake?
If a head upgraded is needed, would a set of 243 heads keep up with a cam of that size? Thanks again!

You don't NEED to upgrade the heads and intake but it will benefit you of course

If you want to use a double roller timing set, you're going to need to use a double roller chain. I'm not sure what chain a "Z06 chain" is specifically, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a single roller chain.

That cam should run well on stock heads as long as you have long tube headers, which you said in OP that you plan to do. Upgrading the heads will ALWAY help, of course.

I have not run that cam before, but based on the feedback and number of recommendations I have seen for it, I think you'll be happy with it.

Good question about the "Z06 chain" its what comes in the Hex-a-just double roller set from Texas speed, i basically copied the text lol.

For now, I'm going to find an LS6 intake and hopefully get a p/p shaner S3 TB and an electric cutout to finish the exhaust. Tried to find info on shaner, but it seems his website doesn't work anymore. Is he no longer a good option for a p/p TB? If not, how are Hawksthirdgen p/p TB's?

Strongly leaning twoards the streetsweeper HT cam and the other mods I listed, but don't have enough bank saved up for it all at the moment. I really appreciate all the help so far!

Imo I wouldn't choose a cam that big. You're going to need so many upgrades for it to perform correctly and it will not drive well when compared to stock. Plenty of people getting it done on here with 22x cams.

That is probably a misprint on the website then.
