Default Cam suggestions for LQ9 build

So much choice...

Engine is going in my 3300lb Camaro. LQ9 based, mixed street and strip use. Driveability isn't an issue as it's not my daily driver.

I was looking at the Comp catalogue but there's so much choice...

LQ9 block
Ported 243 heads
Forged flat top pistons with valve reliefs
LS6 and fast throttle body (likely to be changed for a 4150 style inlet and TB at some point)
Stock rockers with trunion upgrade

I might add some mild N2O in the future too...

4L80 trans, 3000rpm stall converter.

I was thinking of something like one of these?

Any suggestions?

Contact a vendor like Cam Motion, EPS, Tick, Texas Speed, etc (some of whom get their cams ground by Comp) and they can help get the max out of your setup for your goals.

I prefer vendors who get their cams ground by someone other than Comp as I've personally seen 4 failures of Comp LS cam cores. All my cams will be ground by Cam Motion for any future builds.

I agree with thunderstruck on this. Those ones listed are fine but you might get something better by contacting the right people

EPS does a some nice cams. 234/242 on EPS lobes is what I'm running in my setup. Though if your going to be switching to a single plane intake they like a different split.

Dr Whigham's FTI Hellraiser cam would fit this combo well
IIRC 229/236

Agreed. I just yanked a comp in favor of a cam motion. Night and day. And the cams have similar specs. I suggest calling Kip Fabre at cam motion and Martin Smallwood at Tick for their input. Be brutally honest about how you want the motor to run and they'll get you set up right.

Thanks for the feedback guys

I'll send a mail to Cam Motion and EPS and see what we can sort. I'm UK based so calling isn't really an option. But I'm coming over to the US in a few weeks, and a cam is something I want to get while I'm out there

Thanks again,
Sera

Been in touch with Cam Motion and they were really good. Fast responses by email and they've spec'd me a cam. I'll get it ordered in a week or so.

Thanks again for the recommendation
