5.3 crankshaft rotating play
Hi everyone, this is my first post here but I've learned so much from this forum already. I'm doing a ls swap, and I bought a 5.3 truck engine, but when I was about to throw it in I realized that the crankshaft had a little bit of play (in the rotating movement) it's not much but I can feel it when rotating the crankshaft by hand, it feels like rod bearing play I think. Is this normal? Or it means I should be replacing bearings?
Thanks a lot.

I would guess it's just play in the timing chain, but your best bet would be to remove the oil pan.
Look in the bottom of the pan for metal shavings, if it's minimal it may be ok.
Also at the very least, try moving all of the rods back and forth on the crank journals, they should only move .002" or so. If it has spun a bearing it will be easy to tell.
It would be best to go ahead and inspect/replace rod and main bearings while you're there if there were no spun bearings.
