Default 408, how high can I spin it?

Right now my limiter is at 7200 so I can make it through the traps. It peaked around 6500 and with the T56, 4.30s, and a 27" tire I'm trapping right around 129 and I'm assuming very close to the limiter. I'm afraid if I change tracks (129 was at 3000 feet) I'll run out of gear. Basically is it safe to turn a Arp 2000 bolted forged 408 in the 72-7300 rpm range just to go through the traps or should I look at re gearing the car pretty quick.

Would it be easier to go to 28"or 29" tall tire? 29" tire = 3.98:1
7200 rpm becomes 6700 with 29"
7200 rpm becomes 6900 with 28"
Bottom end not as much concern as top end.
Hydraulic or Solid Roller Cam?

Why so much gear to begin with? I would think that stroker has plenty of grunt down low? Just asking ?

The shortblock may be okay, but you're valvetrain may have problems.

The car was set up for stock bottom end. It didn't peak until 6900 so I needed the gear. The 408 is on the edge. It's a hydraulic roller. PAC700 springs stock rockers and ls7 lifters. And I would go to a 28" tire but the 27"s are brand new and I have a 4.10 gear all ready.

Swap the gears, then 28" tires after the 27s wear out.
Or sell the 27"s. 4.10s with 28" =3.95:1, 7200rpm-6600rpm.

not to hijack, I was going to post similar question about a different set up.

408 engine, good to go top end (Mamo heads AFR 235, short travel linked lifters-hydraulic)
4l80e transmission and 410 gears.....what would 26 vs 28 inch tire do as far as RPM when racing int he quarter mile?

I am trying to decide what size slicks to buy for 15x10 rims.
been racing on the street ET drag radials and I cannot hook very well at the track.
thanks

Simple Math, 2" differential 26"-28" 7.7% fewer rpm
28"-26" 7.14% more rpm.
Need to know trap rpm currently.
Roughly 500RPM @ 7000 RPM

Thank you for responding. makes sense. I dont know the trap RPM spot on. I do know that it was way up there last time I raced. I will have to check when I am at the track next time.
again thanks
