Default Lunati 383 Stroker Kit

I'm looking to purchase a Lunati stroker crank (Voodoo), Lunati rods with arp bolts and Wiseco pistons. My question is how are the Lunati cranks and rods? I've been told the Callies crank would be better and Lunati cranks for the 383 have had problems.

Does anyone know if clearancing of the block is necessary with the Lunati rotating assembly and arp2000 bolts?

Thanks!

I'm running a Lunati Voodoo 4" crank with Crower rods and Mahle pistons. Haven't had any problems with it's first 1,500 miles of tuning and beating on this new motor. Has a Procharger pulling on the snout as well.

No clearancing to the block you'll just have to space the windage tray off the studs a bit. What are your plans for this engine ?

I'm ok with spacing the windage tray, oil pickup tube, grinding the oil pan. I would just rather not machine the block if there is a setup that would allow. It's the rod/bolts that hit the block, so I'm guessing it has more to do with your rods than the Lunati crank. I'm planning on using Lunati rods.

My plan for this is 12:1 compression, PRC stage 2.5 ported 799 heads (larger ss valves, dual springs, ti retainers, etc), Texas giant cam, nitrous (direct port or wet plate), 3.90 or 4.10 gears, and rebuilding my trans.

Not sure on the gears yet though. I'm planning on running it in the half mile.

The rod bolts are what hit my windage tray during first assembly. I haven't read of anyone needing to clearance the LS block for any 4" stroke rotating assembly. Pickup tube and oil pan went right into place for me.

I just got done doing a 383 with lunati crank and rods with the arp bolts. I did have to clearance the block. It did not need much but it definitely had to be done.

How did you go about removing material from the block? Did a machine shop do it or were you able to do it yourself?

Thanks

I just used a Dremel with a little grinding stone. I think the machine shop offers to do it if you didn't want to.

Interesting, I haven't read of people having to do the block until the step up into the 4.125'' + strokes. Must be the Lunati rods.

I had clearancing done for my Callies rods. It was too close for my comfort. It did not take much and as they were already honing and fixing my lifter bores hardly cost a thing. If I was doing it myself it would be easy to slightly grind it.

Well good to know. I guess it's not that big of a deal for those having to do it, or there would be more posts about it.

What would be a reasonable price for the shop honing my cylinders to charge for this machine work?

Whatever one hour of shop time costs, and not a penny more...
