Default LQ4 as a LS2 Replacement (Measuring Ring End Gap)

I have a LQ4 block that was just bored over .030, and am using stock .030 over flat top replacements w/ls2 rods.

I was told the rings I purchased would be pretty much install & go, however after reviewing the FSM for the LS2, LQ4/9 I realized I am now at a standstill.

Not sure which ring end gap to go with:
Ls2 -
TOP .008 - .016
SEC

Lq4
TOP .012 - .023
SEC .020 - .033

Lq9
TOP .012 - .020
SEC .020 - .033

I am at:
Top .012-.014"
Sec .010"

I am correct to use the LQ9 specs right? Flat top piston with iron block.
First ring is just barely within spec
Second is super tight

I would definitely open them up, bt by how much depends on what you're doing with the engine. Stock specs are for stock engines. High performance engines typically need looser clearances

It's a stock build, even stock cam. This is for my DD so reliability is key here

I generally find the one that has the loosest tolerance, and set everything else to that in a stock type rebuild.

your primary gaps should stay put and I'd open the secondaries to .022"-.024"

I concur. Second ring should be gapped looser than the top.
