@ ahritchie: Wow, my undersquare six liter motor idea really got some panties in a bunch around here. Christ on a cross, it's just a concept and topic of debate, dude... I never thought I'd be heckled about it in totally unrelated threads. I also never fathomed that I would ever be made fun of for doing research. Lol.

@ the OP: stab the ls1 cam in the 5.3, advanced a total of 4°, and let us know how it goes. Try it since you have it. If you feel the need to get a new cam better suited for early torque production, then you can cross that bridge when you get there.

I just think it's kinda funny you keep calling it a "six liter motor" over and over I don't care how under square of an oddball engine you build.

Oh. Lol. I'm just really lazy. Lol. I typed it like that the first time, and since then I just use it because my phone brings it up as predicted words.

Well, the thing is, My current ride has 176k on it. Its not gonna last much longer. I have a $200 block thats totally rebuildable. I need something to get me going NOW, thats dependable, lol. I would rather put this motor together for pennies to have a solid car "on the road", than to try to play chance and wait another 4 months to "maybe" have enough money for my LS2 build. Its no fun breaking down in the snow. So, i am trying to work with what I have as "efficiantly" as I can. Then I can deal with the real build later.

If you are going to eventually put the 5.3 in a 4x4 in a few months, I would just build it specifically for that application now and do it once and do it right so you aren't having to get a retune or change cams again.

I am reting to reach a financial goal and life keeps getting in the way. Until I reach that goal, I have to scrimp and saver in every direction I can. I will never make my goal if I keep throwing $400 cams and things at this build. I need to use what I have, get it going, get to my goal an then worry about the right way. It may be a little backwards, but, i am not gonna have NO money if I cant get to work, lol.

You can get a used cam or brand new GM cam with hotter specs for the same price as the timing set you're going to need.

Well, if usdmholden is correct in his statement, in which I do not doubt him, I might as well stay with the stock sprockets that look good, get a new LS2 chain and let er eat.
