Default Checking things over after a 3-2 money shift

So I pulled a dumbass move the other night. I was runnign a buddy's 5.0 and I had a bottle in the center cupholder so I deviated from my normal shifting position.....Well I was at the top of 3rd and you guessed it at 6300 I shifted into 2nd. Immediatley I felt the tires skip and the rev limiter go nuts I pushed the clutch in. I dont know how far it exceeded the limiter but I got back on the clutch in less than a second lol.

So the engine settled back down to idle, never shut off I pulled over and listened, no abnormal noises, oil psi is still good. I pulled the covers and looked at all the pushrods everything looked fine. The valvetrain is 11/32 manton pushrods (probably wouldnt bend anyway), yella terra roller rockers, and BTR dual platinum springs. So its a pretty stout deal. After I checked it all I got some other runs in and nothing really feels abnormal to me and its had 250 miles or so put on it since.

My main concern was bending a valve and not knowing it, this morning I put a data log on it and all my fuel trims are still in line along with vacuum being steady at 19 inhg. I know vacuum will flutter with a bent valve usually. A compression test is a huge pain on these cars and even worse with my big headers.... which is why I havent done it everything else seems to check out fine so opinions?

Sounds like you covered your bases. It might be worth an oil change with cutting the filter open looking for debris.

already did lol its clean. im just paranoid about it, you lose that warm fuzzy feeling about the engine when it happens. i just dont want to do a compression test unless thats like the only way but i would think there would be other signs

I think you're OK. FWIW when performing "excited" 3>4 shifting I flip my hand upside down (thumb on the bottom). When you are over stimulated it's easy to pull the shifter towards your body. With your hand inverted it's impossible.

I always do that in this case though I had the bottle in the cup holder and my elbow would hit it so i was shifting the "normal" way. Sucks the one time I deviated from the rule, I was teaching my buddy to do the same thing in his 5.0 right before.

has anyone had a bent valve that didnt make noise or cause it to run like crap? i think the dual springs and thick pushrods helped me out here and kept it in control

i would do a compression test if I had extra time. also the neighbor just came home with a new infant so me cranking the car over 30 times outside probably wouldnt be the nicest thing to do to them so I just want to be sure this way lol

I do the same thing on 3>4 shifts, thumb down. That's why I never put anything in the center cup holder, and rarely have drinks in the car for that matter.... nothing to secure the cups.

When I had my car for only a few months back in 1998 I missed the same shift and soon as I got it back in neutral the engine wouldn't rev at all, pedal did nothing. Tow truck driver found the throttle cable came loose from the TB cam arm and off I went without a second thought. Later I did it again and was worried, so I took it in under warranty complaining of a noise. They found 1 or 2 bent pushrods, and had to remove the heads to inspect the valves, and since the heads were already off I bought some ported heads and a small cam and the tech installed them at the dealership after hours. No bent valves were found at that time. Busted a few in the following years due to the state of crappy aftermarket valve springs at the time though.

But those times when I did mis-shift, every freaking thing in the cabin becomes a projectile lol.

It's fine! If you are quick on the clutch is a big help!

Thanks guys that's a big help so even if it bent one slightly it would still run like crap no? At least I've never seen an engine with bent valves that didn't have a sound or rough idle

I've had a 01 6spd hawk and never missed or grinded a gear. I miss it.

But I do have a stalled auto right now simply because I love the way my 4k stall drives and stalled auto is faster.

3-4 is a straight back motion. Maybe you should practice some more

Right. Put the diet coke on the seat when it's go time!

Trying to drive on of these things with a drink in the cup holder is awkward.... Trying to play around with a big gulp in the car make me wonder if I really wanted the big gulp after all.

Yeah - if you just zinged it up real quick and caught it youre probably fine. Who hasnt gone a couple of grand past redline for a quick sec by accident?
