Default Ls1 5.7 firehawk

I just picked up a 5.7 fire hawk and I'm going to start breaking it down and go throught it. It's my first ls build but I will be having some help. That motor stock is about 350 hp and I'm trying to get it 400+ hp. What are some things that would be easy and cheap to get it into the range? Just trying to get an idea here. Thanks

Matt

Send your heads to advanced induction, get their 219cc high compression program done, and have them spec you a cam for those heads and your goals.

With those heads, a custom grind cam, and some longtubes/ true duals you should be able to reach your goals.

Add an ls6 intake if you can find one for a reasonable price.

Then, it's all about the tune.

350hp is flywheel stock, most guys modding are going to talk rear wheel HP which is lower than at the crank because of the transmission and axle losses.

The previous poster just gave you a recipe for over 400rwhp.

For 400flywheel hp full exhaust, CAI and a tune should get you there.

The "free mods" are usually a good start.

Check out this FAQ posted in the Newbie section. It's a little dated but there's good info about what mods to avoid and which ones are worth while.

Yep to gain 50 hp all you'll need is basic bolt ons like full exhaust air intake and tune

For a Firehawk that already comes with a higher flowing ram air setup with a better flowing lid and 3" SLP cat back exhaust; I would just get a new K&N filter, long tube headers, get a tune, and possibly a LS6 intake.

Since no one has brought this up; does it need to pass emission testing, what model year is it, and does it have a A4 or M6 transmission ?

No it's going in a 74 nova so no smog on it. And it didn't come with the tranny (sold) before I got to it.

You're stripping down/parting out a real Firehawk?! For a run of the mill 1974 Nova?!

I bought the motor out of a wrecked 2001 firehawk. I'm not parting anything out. I'm just putting that motor into a 74 nova.
