Default Comp Cams 6.0L Truck Cam

Has anyone run this cam from comp? G3 XFI266 HR15 (http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1096&sb=2)

I have been thinking about running it in my 04 2500HD. Looks like it wouldn't kill the bottom end based off of its rpm range. I would want to keep the stock 317 heads and CR so I could continue to run 87 since its my daily driver and it already sucks fuel like a pig. Just looking to possibly get a little more power out of the motor for light towing.

Truck has just a tick over 150k miles, so I was thinking beehive valve springs, keep the stock lifters, trunnion upgrade on the rockers, new pushrods, and probably a new timing chain and oil pump. Possibly shorty headers. Would this be worth the work for the power I would gain? I know I am not going to get a ton more out of it keeping it lower compression and on 87 octane. Thoughts are appreciated.

Looks like the Cam Motion stage 2 6.0 truck cam is almost the same thing. I would recommend it over the Comp due to superior cam core and better customer service. You will also get a Cam Dr report showing it is ground correctly.

It will work with a GM ls6 style spring which can be bought for about $60.

I gained right at 40rwhp and 20rwtq from a Cam Motion drop in cam in my 5.3 with absolutely no adverse effects. It makes noticeable improvements from idle then really takes off ~2000rpm and runs hard to the new higher redline. I run mine out to 6,000rpm max, peak hp was around 5800 if I remember correctly.

Mine was tuned for 89 octane prior to the cam and I kept it on 89 after but you could just as easily keep yours on 87 if you want.

I also installed the Cam Motion Stage 2 6L cam in a customer's 2007 Sierra Classic 2500. The truck had a lifter wheel jamb up & flat spotted the cam lobe, since the heads had to come off, I milled them .020 & used a .040 Cometic head gasket. Also used LS2 valve springs & stock pushrods. Truck runs on 87 octane.

The idle just needed to be raised by 50 RPM, and idles very smooth. Just has a throatier exhaust sound (stock manifolds & muffler). But a very nice power gain that pulls easily to 6000 RPM. And of coarse zero valve train noise.

On my 5.3 truck I actually think I dropped the idle rpm and then adjusted the idle timing to make it sound lopey. So it's up to you and your tuner if you want a stock idle or one that gives hints there is a cam installed.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like it would be worth it. Not sure if I would want a little lope or note, probably want it just because lol. Would it be dumb to keep the stock oil pump and timing chain? I am thinking it would be but how long do they normally last?
