Default Identifiers for an LQ4 while in the car.

Alright gang posting this in a new section because my old thread wasn't showing up in the new posts section. I'm looking at buying a camaro that the owner claims he has swapped an LQ4 6L into. What can I look for to identify that it is in fact an LQ4? He says it has 241 heads, cam(not specified but I have asked), claims it's pushing 440hp and could push 500 with a tune. I have asked for paperwork for the swap and cam which he says he will send me but has not yet. If I go look at it is there a way that I can identify that it is an LQ4 in there and not just an LS1?

This is the cam he says it has. 281/284,(233/236 @ .50) .595"/.598" I don't know what the LSA is. Would you guys consider this a track only cam or would it still be a decent street cam?

CattleAc posted this picture for an identifier, but will I be able to see this stamp with the engine in the car and the transmission bolted up?

If ur looking to see lq4 vs ls1 the block is easiest way to tell, the lq4 will be iron block. That being said it could be a 4.8 or 5.3 as well as they are also a couple of the iron blocks. Their is a casting on the block that shiuld say 6.0l however with accessories on engine and engine in car that could be hard to see. The pistons will be small dish if they are stock lq4 ls1 will have flat tops. To tell if it's and iron Block or aluminum will be pretty straight forward just make sure to take the time to confirm its an lq4 (or lq9) not one of the smaller iron engines.

The part about 440 but could be 500 with a tune sounds like it is untuned, in which case I would run from anything that guy worked on.

I doubt it makes 440rwhp but possible but there is no tune that will make that 500rwhp. By your pic it is a 6.0L so i am sure it is a LQ4 because he would let you know if it was a LQ9. I don't know why he used so much RTV on the timing cover gasket when you don't need to use any.

No that's a pic someone else posted. That is not of the engine in the vehicle.

I would take those as flywheel estimates not rear wheel.
