Exclamation Gm hot cam

Well guys I was informed today that my factory cam is sadly.. destroyed. Planned on re-using but that plan is invalid now. Most of the internals are already purchased and are factory spec. I have done what digging I can on this site and others,
My best and budget friendly option is the GM gen 3 Hot Cam Kit
P/N # 12480033

From what I understand I can use factory size bearings (already purchased)
and THE ONLY THING I will need to change from stock, is a Tune. wich will be professionally done.

Are my facts correct?

Valve springs as well. Hot Cam needs free flowing exhaust to work properly.

If using stock exhaust then the LS6 camshaft and valvesprings.

Look on the GTO and Corvette sites for used LS2 springs. Same as LS6 if not a bit better.

Yes ls6 springs are included in the package. How free flowing does the exhaust have to be? Would just a different set of headers do the trick?

LT headers, ORY and most any catback. Even factory catback flows well enough.

Not the best cam choice if auto with stock converter.

I have 3" pipe after the cats, no muffler. Stock exhaust manifold. It is an automatic car. I'm hoping with a tune it will work out for me, the price is right for that cam kit. Sounds like I shouldn't skimp out and get a set of cheaper headers, and it would be worth it. I think the tune will take care of it even if the TC and exhaust isn't ideal.

GM uses this cam in current crate engines with manifolds. They are pretty much same as your LS1 currently has. So to get the most out of it a set of LT's but it will be just fine with manifolds also as long as it's catless.

Thanks for the info. Seemed like a well rounded cam to me, I like gm performance stuff, seems trust worthy.
Worried about the fitment of long tube headers, such a tight space in there and that sounds like a major pain in the ***. Unless you have some info as to what might work with the stock exhaust setup, Will probably stick with the stock exhaust manifolds, gut the cats, put a cat back on.

I installed Kooks headers 1 7/8" primary X 3" collectors on my car. It's really not that bad. I took off the coil packs and changed the plugs with the exhaust off. Is it time consuming? Yes. But it really wasn't complicated and they fit great. Not to mention the horsepower increase after I tuned it. But if you have the mechanical ability to install a cam you certainly have the ability to install headers.

so the kooks worked out pretty good for you? I know I can bolt the headers up, hell, the engine isnt even back in yet lol. Just concerned about the fitment of the rest of the exhaust system, wouldn't want to be stuck buying different cats, or y pipe, or even further back than that.
Dont want to sound cheap, just have a deadline

I bought the entire kooks setup. The headers and true dual exhaust system. You can't tie into the rest of the factory exhaust with kooks... they're long tube headers... but yes I love the exhaust. Will never buy another year pipe setup.

Yeah didnt imagine it would work. Got the cam package today, having the bearings pressed in now. Excited to get it back together. Does anyone have advice about tuners that work well with the ls1?

Haha, If you have a high tech dyno setup maybe we could work something out. Ive been asking around and it seems like a stand alone tuner would be my best application. I do alot of highway driving. Have a shop set a few different tunes for me? I dont have any experience with that stuff
