Default Where did it go? Damages with pics

Collapsed a lifter and ruined the Lg G5x3 cam lobe. My issue is where did the lifter body piece go? Maybe a bounce into the rear timing chain hole? Maybe straight down into oil pan? Im half way into pulling the rest of engine out for pan/cover drop - C5 pull out is not fun- any thoughts, comments or opinions on possible damage. ### looking for replacement LG G5x3 cam ###

Welcome to LS1tech!

It could be anywhere in the engine. Of course pull it and disassemble to find it and also look for other damage it might have caused.

Sounds like a good time to do some short block upgrades!

Hoping to find the lifter corner in the oil pan, do a good inspection, flush motor. Still need to find a replacement G5x3- install new lifters and gaskets maybe a new oil pump.

Make sure and pull the camshaft out & check it out real good. Make sure no other lobes are damaged so you can head off any possible issues.

If you'd like we'd be happy to help with a new camshaft. They're currently on special & we can set you up with a similar duration camshaft with new TSP lobes. Just let us know if we can help, your only 1 day shipping from us!

My g6x3 cam did something similar to my lifter. it scratched it all up and the lobe it was riding on was identical. Never found the cause of it.

How did yours turn out? Find the pieces, do a flush replace parts and all was well? Just hoping that's all I gotta do ( lifters - trays-cam -oil pump). 65k on motor

Man. Looks better than the LQ4 I picked up. Guy paid someone to fix the lifter and the "mechanic" only replaced that one lifter and he didn't even use the right one!! I mean it was completely destroyed. Lucky the filter caught most of it. But the oil pump was destroyed in the process.

Check the oil pan, oil pump and the filter.

pulled the batwing pan down...found 15 of the 16 bearings-no lifter case piece yet. Thats all the shavings that came off pan and magnet.

That's not a collapsed lifter, thats a failed/frozen lifter. A collapsed lifter just doesnt hold hydraulic pressure. Have you cut open the filter? I could see a needle getting past the pickup

Diet coke- after looking at all the lifters thats exactly what i thought. i think this one lifter had the wheel freeze up or the pumping action fail and it slammed itself to pieces. It looks to me like some of the other lifters didnt really "roll" everytime either and may have been bounced a few times (causing what looks very small impact indentions). Who knows at this point- new cam and lifters on the way. Does anyone know what bolt size the three little holes are on the harmonic balancer? Tried all the M8 pitches and one M7 1.00. It threads in fine but is too loose. Thoughht i read somewhere it was M7 1.25 nut that bolt I cant find locally.... all progress stopped for three little bolts

It wont slam itself to pieces, if it loses hydraulic pressure it will just sit in the lifter tray and not ever touch the cam.

Also, that isnt a stock balancer, looks like a powerbond. A large two or three jaw around the outside makes that job easiest (late chrysler puller works). The pb threads are usually M7x1.25 but your best bet is to drill/tap them to M8
