Default Ly6 Short block Swap HELP!

Hello guys
I recently bought a Ly6 and need some help.
The roller is a 2001 ws6
Parts so far:
worked 317 heads
Stage 2 Tick Turbo cam
Netics 78/68 Turbo
102 Fast intake

I plan on doing a 408 stroker as I know the crank wheel needs to be changed. And since the motor is already out why not go ahead and do it.

My question is VVT would you keep it or delete it
will my stock ls1 accessories work on this motor

I also want to up grade to a double roller timing chain- will my stock ls1 timing cover work?

Also From what I've been able to research I know the stock ly6 pan will not clear the fbody k member, again will my stock ls1 pan bolt up.

and lastly what about the knock sensors on the valley of the ls1 so they need to be swapped over or can they?

After thought will my ls1 push rods and lifters work in the ly6?

All help is very very appreciated

I could be wrong but I'm thinking you would need to run an ECU that has provisions for VVT and that would also use a 58x crank sensor. If that's the case you won't be using the LS1 front cover because with VVT you would also need to run the correct front cover for the VVT system.
It would be easier to do away with VVT in your case.
Yes the LS1 lifter and pushrods should work in that block. The lifters are the same, It's only when you get into DOD engines that used different lifters.
LS1 oil pan will bolt right up. Just be sure to use the LS1 pickup tube in the swap.
Double roller will work with the stock LS1 cover but with a double roller chain you can run into clearance issues between the oil pump and chain and chain and front cover. It will depend on what chain and oil pump combination. I have a double roller chain on a lq4 with mellings 10295 pump. I had to run a small spacer on the pump and use a die grinder to clearance the cover slightly.
I don't know about the knock sensors maybe someone else can answer that.

Thanks for the reply
I do plan on deleting the vvt, and the only reason I thought I could run the stock ls1 timing cover is bc I thought the ly6 has a place in the back of the motor besides the pressure switch for the cam sensor. Idk thou its been awhile since I've looked at the motor.

I was also gonna use my ls1 oil pump, I just put a new high volume pump in not too long ago, as long as it will work.

Anyone have any input on the knock sensors?

86 it.

Yes. You'll need to drill/tap the hole for the alternator bracket in the "ear" on the driver's side of the block.

Yes. It will need some grinding to clear the oil pump when you shim it out.

Sure will.

I'm pretty sure all LS knock sensors are identical, you'll just need to extend your harness or run a Gen IV knock sensor harness.

not sure if this is a ly6 or not guys

I thought the ly6s had a cam sensor in the front

this one has a hole for the oil pressure switch and the cam sensor

I also didn't think my ls1 valley cover would work on this motor <br/>

or the knock sensor

YUP. GEN III . LQ4. If it had flat top pistons, it would be a LQ9 Just be sure to have the block checked to make sure the cylinders will clean up to your desired size. As I'm sure you know, have the cyl/s bored and honed to each piston.

Yes you can reuse your LS1 timing cover if its' cleaner.

Your thread was alot quicker/easier.

Glad people answered your questions. Be sure to start a build thread on your new stroker. Are you building it or having a machine shop do it?

Best of luck,
Jim

That looks just like the 2007 LQ4 Im running in my car now. In the later years Gm used the LY6 notched pistons instead of the old dished pistons. You also have the gen 4 rods in there. Too bad its not in better shape to run as is.

That turbo is too small for a 6.0l let alone a 408.
