My 5.3 needs a rebuild
I broke something in my top end and the rings are getting worse than they were, now I guess my question is with a 3,000 budget what would be the best way to go about rebuilding my engine with a mild cam, ported stock heads, intake, and a different throttle body
If my bottom end is still good I'm not touching it besides the new bearings, rings, and a little bit higher volume oil pump at the most since I can get at it and I'll already have the engine out
it's on a 2000 silverado 4x4

We have entry level shortblock replacements starting at 1899.00. Feel free to give us a call or send and email to me directly. We would be happy to go over some options with you.

Well I have 190,000 on it right now and it sounds like the cam bearings are getting worn and there's another knocking in the top end there was no piston slap

I just bought most everything to rebuild a 2002 5.3 to stock form for my 70 GMC short fleet. I am at 1000 already. No machine work. Bores measure fine. I'm gonna just break the glaze. Anyway, speedpro pistons, hastings rings, king bearings, GM bolts and oil pump, felpro gaskets. Still need some things. The little stuff will kill you.

Oh nothing done to the heads either. Just gonna lap the valves. Engine had 150K on it. Looks really good. 3K might not be enough. Well depending on the bottom end. Texas speed stage one port is 750. Then new valves and springs brings it up to 1200-1300 if I remember right. With your cores. Cam kit is 599 right now with springs and push rods.

I got good news for myself this morning
My transmission was acting up because of the torque converter so I'll probably get a stall converter just to replace it
