Default cam for road racing

im going in a different direction than most with my build. im looking to build a canyon carver for weekend driving and for a local cannonball run here in northern Colorado so 4.10s are not an option, lol. theres also a few 1/2 and full mile airstrip events in the area. ive got an 02 ws6 m6 car that im going to do a cam swap on im looking at either the tsp 228R or the vxr4. im keeping the 3.42s for top end reasons. ive also thought about the torqer v2 or the vxr5 but I don't want to loose a lot of bottom end grunt for powering out of the hairpins.....thoughts? ill be running long tubes and either an ORY or dumped true duals, but im leaning towards the ORY and a good cat back as it will see quite a bit of street/highway patrolling as well. id like to see 400+hp corrected for altitude.

2002 ws6 m6
stock heads, lid, full exhaust, tower brace, and full tubular rear susp.

Out of those choices the 228r might be your best bet

Unless you're just going to be casually taking your street car to a roadcourse for some fun, I'd say those cams are not going to be well suited for true roadcourse duty.

The most important things about a cam for a roadcourse engine are going to be high RPM stability and reliability with other parts of the valvetrain. I would personally not run those types of lobes on a serious roadrace engine in today's world with so many better and more reliable options available.

Not that those are bad or unreliable cams, but there are better things out there for true roadracing setups that are more stable at high RPMs, more reliable and make just as much power.

The car will see weekend driving, canyon cruises, a few autoX events, and one true 2day cannonball event. What would you suggest?

I would go with something from Cammotion, they have some very nice lobes.

Hit up Kip Fabre and he will make you a nice cam for your needs.
