Checking PTV clearance head fully torqued?

Checking PTV clearance head fully torqued?

Hey guys I got a pretty simple question I'm getting ready to check Piston to valve clearance and have a question. Do all of the head studs need to be torqued down in three stages for this or can I just use the four around the cylinder that I'm checking or could this possibly warp the head.?

I always just torque it all the way with the old gasket in place to measure.

I used an old gasket and about 20# on the 4 bolts on the cylinder to be checked. Went back after new head gaskets and full torque and saw no change...

I plan on using a a generic Felpro head gasket that came in the gasket kit for the rebuild. Since it is a new gasket that I plan on using to check for piston to valve clearance should I maybe torque all of them down? For the record this gasket is .048 thick and I plan on using an ls9 which is .051 thick.

Use the old gasket, 0.003" is probably within the margin of error especially if using clay. What I did, since I was going to a 0.040" Cometic, was strip one layer off the removed GM gaskets to get the correct thickness.
