Build questions
Thanks in advance, everyone. I currently have an '02 b4c z28 with 104k on her. I decided to sell my bike and build the z28 to have some street fun. Trying to budget myself but it's difficult when looking at parts because I am a kid in a candy store. I am curious as to what prices seem fair and what people generally think I could expect from the combination.
70840001K1 Lunati 4.00 stroke with H beam 6.125 rods $1200
Torquer v2 cam kit w/ springs, pushrods $700
Ls7 lifters w/ trays $125
Ls6 oil pump $70
Comp cam hex adj timing set $160 - not sure if that's what I need
TS 278mm 3k stall $500
Manley valves $300
Budgeting $800 for Pistons but not sure which piston to run
Not sure what I should be doing about the rockers.
Have some cheap headers waiting. I know I will have to get my machine shop to deal with the reluctor ring unless I buy the converter box. But any helpful input on my build is appreciated. Trying to make sure I am not over-looking things

Yea a little home porting will happen before the heads are sent to the machine shop. My biggest deal is knowing what piston to run with these rods. I am finding some Carrillo Pistons for a good price forged at less than $700 but the wrist pin is a .927. Not sure if there is a bushing I would have to have installed or what. I've built a little Honda motor quite a few years ago, but this is my first LS v8 build. Some advice on the timing set would be appreciated, too. I am looking to degree the cam once it is in so I just assumed the kit I mentioned is what I would need. Or maybe I could go cheaper and do offset keyways? Like the old school stuff.
In your budgeting don't forget gaskets, sealers, liquids, whatever breaks, if you need engine mounts, and the while I'm here stuff that seems to get me everytime, sometimes doubling
the budget or more. you have to replace some of the bolts and are you going to use studs?
just some more things to think about. good luck on the project.

Well as it turns out I am a fool. After talking to mayhem motorsports I was informed that I would be much better off leaving the stock crank and rods in the car. I was recommended to run some AFR 210cc heads and a cam with around .610i/.59x to achieve the 400+ whp I would like to have. I was worried about bullet proofing the bottom end so doing a stroker kit while there made sense. Now, the head/cam option with headers and lid seems the better way. Still changing lifters, trays, trunion upgrade, chain, oil pump, push rods, stall
I still need help deciding on a set of Pistons for the car. I want to bore it and run 3.905 Pistons considering it has 100k on her I expect there to be some slight wear, egging the walls.
I also need help picking a cam with the heads. Reading tells me I won't need as much lift with these heads but I love the choppy idle of the bump sticks. AFR recommends 224/228 so hopefully I can find one that likes to lope at idle.
I know I can spend 800 bucks on mahle Pistons but considering the stock Pistons should be fine I was hoping to find a nice cast piston to shove in there. Maybe even a hyperautectic(however it's spelled) set to save the wallet without leaving the old Pistons in. I know the AFR heads recommend at least a 3.900 bore for the heads. I am shooting for about 10.5:1 or slightly less just to give the tuner some wiggle room with timing.
Any help is appreciated, again!
