Hello all, as I am new to this fourm, im not sure if this is in the right section, but here I go.

I have a, well what I was told, 5.3 from a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. Block Casting Number 12551358 with 862 Heads. I just blew up the bottem end, rod started knocking real loud. So I headed off to my local junkyards, i came up with two options. I want to buy a 5.3 and swap over my heads, cam and intake. i bought new front and rear main seals, timing chain and gear set etc. i want to make sure that the engine i buy will accept the parts from my blown up motor. i was told these motors are diffent for the different years. somthing like 99-04 and then 005-07.5 or somthing like that.

The first choise is a 2002 tahoe 5.3 witgh block casting numbers 12567393 and 862 heads. they want 450 cash out the door has 150k on it.

seccond choise is from a 2005 tahoe it has 99k on it block casting number is 12567392 with 706 heads on it. they want 600 cash out the door.

which motor will work? please if anyone knows the differences and what will and what will not interchange please let me know.

 

I would take the 2nd choice with the 706 heads.. and lower mileage..

 

862 heads are pretty much identical to the 706 heads.. i believe the new 05 engines put out a bit more hp then the earlier models

 

But will my cam and heads from my 01 Tahoe motor go into a 05 5.3?

 

As long as u didnt damage anything ... everything should swap over
