Default Ls1 rods with ls2 pistons

Anyone know if the ls1 press fit rods will work with ls2 free floating pistons if the locks are used? Will that be okay?

You don't need the locks with the press fit rods. Just make sure the pin bore in the pistkn has adequate clearance and it should be okay.

The problem I have is that the pin slides in and out by hand..that can't be normal....right?

It's supposed to do that in the piston, but obviously not in the rod. The rod is where the press fit is but the piston should still have clearance.

The (original) pressed wrist pin is .945" in diameter, the press fit rods are build to support this diameter.

The floating wrist pin is .943" in diameter. Maybe you can change the bushing in order to make original ls2 pistons work with the pressed fit rod.

You can just hone the pin bores in the piston. I've done this with aftermarket pistons that were meant for a .927" pin and used them with press fit LS1 rods.

So TS needs to use the pressed fit piston pin with the pressed fit rods and hone the piston. I've learned something today

This the pic see if this helps the pin is snug in there it has no play up or down just side to side.My neighbor is a retired mechanic and he said all it needs is locks now but I just want to double check? If I do need to go through honing it or installing locks. My budget is tight now thanks for the replies.

YOU DO NOT USE LOCKS WITH PRESS FIT PINS.

When you use floating rods, the locks need to be used to keep the pins from coming out of the pistons since both the rods and pistons have clearance in the pin bores. With the press fit rods, the pins are retained in there by the rod since its a press fit, but the piston should still have clearance in the pin bore. No matter which style you use, the piston needs to have clearance or else it all locks up and you destroy your engine.

Using a Floating Pin requires a bushing in the rod for the pin to slide in. There may be no play that you can feel but there is play and you will have issues later on.

As mentioned the press fit rods are sized at .945 and the Floating pins are only .943 or so. You need a soft material for the pin. The powdered metal will damage the hardened pins.

You would be better of using the correct rods. Other wise if there is room the rods you have will need to be bushed for the floating pins.
