I got some flow master DBX coming. My hope is that after the X, the effect will be minimal. If it's still too loud, I'll add a couple resonators. Hate to do it, but no choice. DBX is supposed to flow as good as hush power but a couple dB quieter

Got me a little scared, Im going to be daily driving my car with a 231/234 cam, LT's, ORY, and just a single bullet to muffle it, and I often leave for work around 4:30. Thank got the neighbors are through some trees.

Congrats on the numbers.

Im hoping I will be able to hook decently with 275 Pilot super sports at hopefully a little over 400rwhp.

why you think I have bigs-n-littles now?

With 315-35-17 toyo tq's, I could not even use half throttle in first and spin through half of 2nd(55-60). Now I can smash it from a 10 roll and hook. Put some sidewall on it and enjoy the new found power unless you like doing 60 rolls.

I also want to quiet the car down a touch.

Darth, do you have any pictures of your k-member install? I'm interested in doing this, as well.

I run all UMI suspension and really like it. I know you said you were looking for a torque arm and subframe connectors, I should have an old post over in the suspension section with all my parts... I'll see if I can find it.

After researching I ended up with 2 Borla Pro XS mufflers. They are rated one of the quietest with one of the highest HP numbers. I've seen people that weren't happy with them because they were "too quiet" and not enough people noticed them but at least on my car they are barely acceptable but quieter than when I had 4 with resonators and Spintechs on the old 5.7

Here is a pic from the passenger side in front of the wheel.

If you look just above the steering boot, you can see the motor mount in plain site. Ignore all the oil. I know where it's seeping from I just haven't had a chance to re-repair it

Lol. It's amazing how much nicer it is without the stocker in there. Those things are monsters. It's great to upgrade just for the room to work on the car and the weight savings is a good bonus.
Looks good!

Thanks! Yeah my first thought was "how the hell did I work on this thing all that time?" I got the motor mounts bolted by going through the wheel wells with a socket extension. It was quite nice vs the pedestals and 1/16 turn at a time thing

Did you just support the motor with a floor jack under the oil pan (with a piece of wood) while removing the old one? Can you jack on the tubular k-member?

yes and yes, but I'm thinking to use wood between jack and K to avoid scratching it up and creating a rust point

Nice solid numbers! I'm sure you can hit it with some lighter wheels and tires lol. At this point who cares

Pull the belt and you will hit 500 hp. What is great is it drives great and pulls big power. Nice job.

Maybe you could put the tornado on it and hit 500HP.

Nice numbers.

Keep in mind that they are just that: numbers. You could dyno on a different day and hit your goal. The important thing is that the car runs strong.

Yeah that's what I did for mine too. I notched a piece of wood so that the k member actually sits in it which works good.

As for install I used an engine hoist from the top to brace the engine while I dropped the k member and I was trying to figure out why. But it's because I pulled the engine at the same time lol. Supporting from the oil pan is much easier.

I have to be VERY careful with this post, but I know y'all'll get a charge out of this (How'd you like that double-contraction there?)

I have a police officer friend who I have used to do some test driving for me, since he drives better than I do. Anything else you read between the lines on that is on you - not me or him. OK

So, he texted me this today -- "Your TransAm has ruined sports cars of that era for me forever. I'm at work and some dude driving a TransAm that looks very similar to yours was revving the motor and showing off. It made me laugh, and then I felt bad for him."
__________________________________________________ _________

Another quick thing - I drove my daughter's 97 Camaro to work today, and um.... wow. I can't believe how slow and heavy it feels, and how soft the suspension is, and how weak the clutch is, and how weak the brakes are. it's really crazy when you get used to a great car how a stock one feels by comparison. All of you out there who are used to your cars and think you want more power, etc, should really go back and drive a bone stock fourth gen.

Congrats on the build. Have you considered a quiet exhaust w/ cut outs for when you get away from the neighborhood?

thanks! I have. I just hate to cut into this beautiful dual exhaust. Better than sand in the gas tank though.

I'm about done installing DBX mufflers. If that's not enough, I'll add resonators and cutouts

Why the driveshaft concern? Was it previously damaged?

Our aluminum driveshafts have a steel insert located @ the differential end. There are rubber sleeves pressed into the aluminum tubing & then a steel tube is pressed into the rubber sleeves. It's a short, approx 1.5 ft long insert. It helps the aluminum shaft dampen & resist shock loads @ the end of the driveshaft that sees the highest torsional load.
