LQ4/LS2 Timing Chain Question 2007 LQ4
Replacing the oil pump and timing chain in my engine before I stab it in my 66 C10. Everything I've read says go with the LS2 timing chain because it's better than the original LQ4.
My question is: Do I need to run a timing chain damper, and if so, which one? A lot of what I've read states the LS2 one is garbage. What do I need to run and from what year/engine?

The Ls2 chain is better than the LQ4 unless you have the 05 -07 LQ4 then they are the same. You don't have to run a timing chain damper. If your block is drilled for one use the LS2 one if not you will need the trickflow setup which bolts to the cam retaining plate. I have never seen that the LS2 one is garbage i have only heard bad things about the LS3 damper. Since you have it apart i would put a damper in but you will be fine without it unless you decide to go road racing.
