Default What keeps my cam from runbing the retainer plate?

Installed my tsp cam and i notice it can move slightly in and out of the motor. What keeps the cam sprocket from rubbing the retainer plate ? Does the timing sprocket help do this ?

Just oil, but aftermarket timing sets will use a Torrington bearing between the gear and plate.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing stops it.

Chain tension, usually. The tension will force the sprockets on the crank and cam to stay perfectly lined up, and the cam won't be able to move forward or backward any.

Oil, similar to a bearing.

You better be careful and fix that. I would drill 2 small holes 1 on each side of the plate to lube that section. If it is not properly oiled metal shaving will develop and fall into the oil pump and your motor is shot. Ask me how I know. Mine had to be rebuilt because of this a few yrs back.

Vincihiperformance has a article of this manufacture defect on our motors.
