Default Looking to do a ls1 cam only

I recently just bought a 2001 ls1 with 25k miles.
It has a vegance racing vxr5 236-238 cam with ls2 timing chain and meiling high volume pump the 10296.


Its sitting on the engine stand looking around to see what is the best cam to put in it and which stock head. I can get 241 heads very cheap to throw on it.

Or i have a option of getting afr 215 65cc heads

Its a 98 trans am full weight. 4:11 gears. longtubes. slp lid.and t56 car on a qtp 27 inch tire

looking to get 130-135 on a little bit of spray

i have a nx plate kit

was thinking about doing a dry kit with the halo set up in the air box


looking for thoughts and advice thanks

Im just throwing it out to there too see if there is another cam out there to make more power with spray.

Sure there other cams that may make another 10 hp or so, but if it were me I'd save my money and keep what I've got, and spend that money elsewhere on the car. What are the rest of the specs on the cam?

Nothing wrong with that cam at all. In fact the specs look pretty decent to me. That's just my opinion

Yeah thats what im thinking its probably going to stay.

It has a meiling high volume pump the 10296 one and ls2 timing chain.

May just leave all that and run with it. Alot of people dont like the pump but some do its hit and miss on opinions on things

It has 215 afr heads on it now but stock lifters is it safe to keep the stock lifters in the motor with that set up

Many people choose to run the factory lifters in setups like yours. My only concern would be if they are the original factory lifters, or if they were replaced with a factory style set when the heads and cam setup was installed. Regardless there are a lot of people running similar combinations with a stock style lifter and no problems. Feel free to give us or send me a message directly. We are happy to help.

They are the stock 25k mile oem lifers that cam in the motor he didnt replace them when he did the heads

Is it a daily driver? If you have the chance to run the AFR 215cc heads, I'd do it. Heads are where it's at on a NA combo. That VRX5 cam should work well with those heads too.

Car only made 420/430hp (can't remember which he told me)heads and cam with fast 102 and trapped a best of 114 I think if I remembered it right. With the same drivetrain that's in union carpenters car now.
