Default Oil change after cam install - advice needed

Okay, I know it's recommended that you change your oil 500 miles after a cam install.

Here's my situation. I am over 3k on my current Mobil 1. I put the cam in 150 miles ago, expecting to change oil as soon as it hit 500 since it'd be a waste of money to change it and then change it again so soon. However, I am now getting tuned sooner than I expected. The tuner is ~250 miles away, then I'll be driving ~150 miles to Jacksonville for the weekend, then ~170 miles back home. That's a few extra miles I hadn't planned on.

Would it be prudent to change the oil now, before I leave? Would these 150 miles be enough to get the crud out, or will I need to change it again? Any advice is appreciated.

You will be fine. Heck on most of my heads/cam installs I didn't change the oil unitl the next 3000 miles -- no ill effects. As long as you are careful with not getting stuff everywhere you are fine.

An oil change soon after a cam install is more applicable to flat tappet cams not roller cams. The parkerized coating on the flat tappet cam and break-in lubricant can create the "crud" that you've heard of. Roller cams don't use either. You should be good to go.
