if your primary goal is acceleration, get the converter. If it's towing don't.

Thx Darth. I am looking for acceleration. Any recommendations for a converter. This truck will never tow anything but it's self.

Lots and Lots of variables here. Give us some more info on the setup and the goals. What 5.3 (LM7?), compression, other mods, what's it going into, what's the car going to weigh, what are your goals for the thing? Do you want to tow, nice street cam, street strip, granny car, etc. etc.

The build is a lm7 swap into a 1956 international s100 series pick up. Right now engine is stock looking to do cam, headers, intake, and maybe heads.

Goals is street ride that is taken to shows. Maybe the odd burn out. Don't want it to kick like a mule when shifting because the wife will drive it from time to time(only way I could sell the project to her)

That 212/218 isn't a bad choice. I would go a little bigger, especially if you plan on doing heads. You can keep it on an early ICL with a narrow LSA to keep the torque down low. Something like a 26-2800 stall might be right up your alley. Some guys will recommend bigger (say a 3600) but that's for all out acceleration. It works in an f body, might not work so great in an s100 that your wife wants to drive.

For better converter recommendations, I'd head over to the automatic transmission section and pick their brains. https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission-13/

I was going to suggest 3,000 for your purposes. Maroon's recommendation for 2600-2800 might be better. I don't drive anything without a man pedal
