Default Knocking after going through a puddle

Hey guys, so I think I might of killed my motor. It was raining really bad and the visibility was terrible so I ended up going through a very deep puddle. Half way through the car felt like it lost power and it started knocking really bad. Am I looking at bent rods or something worse? Thank you?

Yikes. I would pull all plugs, run the starter for several 20-second paces(clear intake tract and cylinders), and then put them back in and see if it will run. Or the right way----pull the engine and dismantle it and check everything out.

That what I was thinking, but the car runs right now. I also pulled the dip stick and it didn't seem like there was any water on it. Does that mean that it didn't get into the bottom of the motor?

If water got into the intake manifold and then into a cylinder, then you may have hydrolocked the engine. Water doesn't compress and something has to give when the piston comes up on compression. You're most likely going to need to rebuild or replace the engine. I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear but good luck with it.

If you did damage it from hydro lock your insurance might cover replacement.

That's a really good point. Basically flood damage.

I had my mechanic look at it and he said that it sounds like it cracked a piston.

What you are most likely hearing is a bent rod, when a rod bends it causes the piston to move farther down the bore in its stroke striking the crank on every revolution.

What kind of air intake are you using on the car?

Wouldn't the car be running funny with a bent rod?

Ho did you suck up enough water with just an slp lid to hydrolock the engine? I don't think that's the pro if you don't have a ram air kit.

I have no idea tbh but the air filter was soaking wet
