Default 500 rwhp ls1 build?

I have been wanting to start a ls1 6.0L build from the ground up that makes 500 rwhp naturally aspired and put it in my 76 corvette. Only build LS1's to the stock performance so was wondering if it is possible and what parts I might need. Have never put a new style engine in an old car before either but I don't think that will be the problem for me. I was thinking of getting it done with a 10k budget including tranny but lately don't think that's possible. Just wonder what other peoples thoughts are. Any help is appreciated.

Just so you know a LS1 is a 5.7, not a 6.0. The LS2, LQ9 and LQ4 are a 6.0

I have to say this is one of the few posts I've seen with this question without an unrealistic budget.

You'll likely have close to 10 in the motor if you want it to be DD dependable. The "recipe for 500 hp" is an excellent resource.

With a 6.0, I'd suggest building with the mms235 heads as a foundation, LLSR cam from cam motion, if you like more midrange go with fast102 ported intake. If you want some revs, ported MSD Air Force intake. Long tube headers, X-pipe, true dual exhaust.

An alternative suggestion would be to start with LS3 heads and intake.

Beyond the heads, don't go cheap on valve train. Make it light and reliable to support life at 7k.

Figure atleast 5k for he heads cam and install kit for a good setup (mine came out to 4686 I think it was) then depending on which style intake you want you could be between 1200-1600. Are you going forged bottom or stock? A crank with a set of rods and Pistons will probably be another 1k after buying everything. So it is do able probably and will be close.

You could make it a boosted application and run low boost to make low 500 rwhp.

I agree with Darth, MMS235s with Ported MSD and a Cam Motion
LLSR specced by Tony something like 235*/239* .630"/.610"
115*+3* for a 7500+ RPM screamer peak around 7000 and carry
Past 7500.
Or FAST 102 also ported by Tony, with a Hydraulic Cam something like
227*/231* 114*+3* more low and midrange, peak around
~6500 RPM and carry to ~7000 RPM.
