Hey! I'm a newbie at these forums and not sure if this exact question has already been asked, But what all is needed to complete a 5.3 swap on an ls1 camaro? Does the 5.3 wiring harness plug right in or do i have to fabricate somethings? Also, can anyone tell me if the ly5 needs anything different than the lm7? I'd rather go ly5( for the stronger bottom end and extra power stock) but i also don't want to have to buy all kinds of things to make it work out. Thanks for reading, and once again im sorry if i posted the same as an earlier question.
Thanks! Jason.
Thanks! Jason.

The iron truck blocks do not have holes for the f body alternator bracket. You will have to drill a hole in the front of the block but it's really not that big of a deal. I drilled mine while the engine was still in the back of my truck as I had just gotten it from the salvage yard. Good luck with your swap!

Gen 3 has the cam sensor back and top of block right by the oil pressure sensor. The gen 4 has the cam sensor in the timing cover. The l33 5.3 would be the best replacement for the LS1 since it is a gen 3 motor and also aluminum.

Thanks for the replies guys! I guess I will stick to the gen lll. Also I wanted iron block because I am planning on boosting this motor pretty hard. I was told a gen 5.3 stock bottom end can handle around 550-600 horses, but the gen4 can handle closer to 800? Also the gen4 is still a 5.3 right? Thanks again guys!
