Default To head studs from bolts without removing the heads?

Anyone switch to studs from bolts by just replacing them without removing the heads?

Example: follow the torque sequence, replacing bolts with studs 1 by 1?

I'm pretty sure I've seen past threads about this but cant fine them.

Reason I ask, I'm doing a 5.3 for a swap and just put the heads on yesterday, this morning I woke up regretting using the OE style TTY bolts.

I've not done it? But my thoughts are if you do them one at a time (i.e. not disturbing the HG seal), there should be no problem.

Especially since it sounds like you haven't even run the motor yet. However, since the heads are now on unless you plan removal why bother at this point?

Why not? LOL, it's just a fun engine/project and I don't even have a car for the engine yet - thinking of a late 80's 442/Monte SS.

The engine is still on the stand, and there is a remote possibility I may go with a sloppy turbo kit. I made the decision to use the OE style fasteners but now I regret it.

You should be able to do this. I ran my studs through a few heat cycles and they re-tightened the nuts. To do this and get the proper torque, you need to back off prior to re-tightening to the correct torque value. So I don't see an issue replacing your bolts with studs one at a time as you indicated especially since there is no coolant in the block.

Replacing them one at a time shouldn't be an issue at all.
