Default Is this block a boat anchor?

This is the original 2002 block out of my TransAm. Crank and pistons are still in it. Was pulled and replaced with a low mileage 2000 block when I found out cylinders 5 and 7 were dead. This was several years ago and it's just sat. I was spraying the cylinders with WD-40 but I've clearly been forgetting to do it. Just wondering if it's worth hanging on to for a rebuild eventually or is it just taking up space. Can get other pics if requested. Thanks!!

Most likely it will clean up ok. clean it a little and spray it down. If its not pitted, you should be ok.

As mentioned, as long as there is no major pitting it should be rebuild-able.

I would suggest using something like Fluid film and covering it up with an engine bag or a large trash bag if you have them.

Most definitely put a big trash bag on it and close it up. It keeps out the air and your oiling will last for a long time. Like a year or more. We bag our engines for long periods until we need to swap one and they always look good and wet.

Unfortunately, WD-40 doesn't protect well to prevent this as you found out. We have major rust issues where I am located due to the ocean being just down the road. I have seen metal do that is a day or two where I am.

Have you tried cleaning it up at all?

I haven't tried cleaning it up. I have never done any kind of internal engine work like this. I'm sure I could handle stripping the block but as far as refurbishing I haven't a clue. I'm not opposed to learning and trying.

I do have some fluid film so once I get it cleaned up I'll use that and a trash bag.
