Default Lifter tray bolt question

Hey guys new here, started a turbo 5.3 build and basically went thru using new rings, gaskets, bearings, turbo can etc. Upon installing the lifter tray's i didnt realize i was using that much torque and ended up snapping on off, do i need to retract it or would the lifter tray and everything be fine without a bolt there? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question but i dont see the tray going anywhere and would like to not have to drill anything and chance any metal shavings getting inside the motor, but if it mean catastrophic failure I will , Thanks in advanced

It may be a pain but you need to get the old bolt out and a new one reinstalled.

Damn, Ok. It's not flush either haha this is gonna be fun. Do you know the size of the bolt by chance? More then likely I will have to drill and re-tap...

It's a 6mm, but I forget the thread spacing. You're probably going to want to helicoil it if you mess up the threads in the block. I don't know that I would want to use anything but that OEM bolt that goes in there.

Or if you have the money, buy some tie bar lifters and your problem is solved

If it's broke off above the block weld on a nut and back it out.

It snapped off about a 1/4 of the way down so it would be difficult to weld a nut on. It should be somewhat loose so I hope I get lucky haven't messed with it just yet.

Like KCS said, you can go to a Link bar setup. But I'd still want that bolt removed anyways. So, you might be better off getting it removed.

If the bolt broke off clean and will allow a small drill bit to get started dead center, those bolt extractors work amazing. Just get a small hole started, maybe about 1/16" deep and get the bolt extractor from any tool store or Home Depot/Lowes. Then lightly tap it in the hole, press down while extracting to try and keep the threads on the extractor from stripping out the drilled portion. If you've made it this far, you'll have no issues getting that bolt out.

Make sure you take care and prep everything since there will be metal shavings.

I've had luck with left handed drill bits. Since the bolt is broke, sometimes just drilling slowly with a lefty bit will bite and back it out

Yep...this works too if it'd down in there.
