Default New camshaft is pitted

2 weeks ago I received a new Edelbrock camshaft in the mail after cleaning it up I discovered little pits on a lobe. I called the distributor and they quickly sent out another one. Well today I was cleaning the replacement camshaft and found more pits on this one than the first. Is this normal? Will the roller lifters roll right over these or is it going to wear out the rollers. I'm still waiting on a response back from Edelbrock.

Send that back. I wouldn't run a cam with a blemished lobe.

That blemish will turn into a disaster really fast. Do yourself a favor and return it.

Send it back, get a refund, and call Cam Motion.

Cam motion has faults as well as anybody, I just received my cam back from them after
they had to finish the lobes.

Skspeed called me back and are sending me a 3rd cam. They have been a stand up company so far. I haven't received anything from Edelbrock though. Fingers crossed the 3rd one is a charm. If not I'll be going with a different manufacturer. I'll check out Cam Motion and see what they offer.

To me the lobes didn't look finished, I'm sure there is a better term for what
the exact issue was.

How small a blemish on a lobe to be considered an issue to return?

Any blemish, why settle on something if you bought it brand spanking new!

At least that's the way I feel

Not saying anyone is perfect, but receiving 2 bad examples in a row of a part like a camshaft would be enough for me to move on to a different product. I like to have faith in my internal engine parts...I get burned and it's hard to build that faith back up.

Just my opinion though and everyone has their own.

Send that camshaft back and I'll help you into a Texas Speed camshaft. With the brand new landis lt1 ve camshaft grinder we can build the most advanced ls camshafts available to the market.

No worry about
  • camshaft peeling
  • squealing
  • loud valvetrain noise
  • camshafts cores without gun drill to save $10
  • lobes that are lazy because of out dated camshaft grinder technology
