Advice on engine purchase
So.....
Why is this engine transmission combo so cheap
http://www.ebay.com/itm/262630353681
Almost half price of others....... obviously no mention of mileage ......
Almost thought about buying ...... but not ready for a month or two until front end done

Where are you located? I got to think you should be able to find something at a junk yard or craigslist near you that you can inspect in person. Pulling valve covers is easy and will give you an idea as well as performing a leak down test. Buying online is a risk you have to be willing to take if that's the way you want to go.

Not too much on CL in 6.0.
LKQ or whatever is closest doesn't have engines .... they pull them and go to some central distribution.
Emailed 1-2 others I know. Haven't heard back.
All honesty..... unless engine is in truck wouldn't know exactly where to start in getting fuel and ignition to it. I know some guys carry batteries and fuel with them but ....
Compression test should be OK have done that before on diesel truck......never done a leakdown. Guess what I'm saying is doing "in the field" seems like a headache versus doing it at home..... then return if fails........
Carrying batteries and comp kit around and fuel around seems like a drama ........ is this what you guys do ?
You are over thinking this... Spend some time in the forced induction forum.
If you are planning on going FI then just do it. Throw in a SBE 5.3 or 6.0 & make 700rwhp. If you build the system right you can go as big as your heart desires, or at least as big as an LSX block will allow, & make as much power as you can imagine putting to the ground.
Get a motor & freshen it up with rings & bearings & add some boost & then move on.

That will definately be phase II.
Between doing a restore and swap over to LS in my carport just big enough to hold the truck ........ first phase will be putting everything together and working in hopefully 6 months ......
When I say I see FI in my future ....... I mean on another truck ...... or this truck if I keep it in a few years.
I know it sounds like overthinking - but trying doing it right the 1st time is worth it - cant count the number if times I swapped turbo setups or injectors to get truck where I needed it - am sure same will be here .......
There;s a lot to cover (Trans, Tuning, Axles, Mounts, compatibility ECM/PCM , cams, rollers, springs, mounts, oil pans, driveline, wiring ) not like I'm just doing an engine swap which would be big enough anyway
To the point above though ,...... all Im finding locally is LQ4 for around $2000 ...... and then factor in a 4L80e in good condition and shift kit ($1500) and add heads and cam and valve train ($1200)[totals over $4k$] your close to LS2 combo.......
Im sure I'll eventually find one cheaper ..... but not really so far......
etc etc
