Default think im ready for more cam

as the title says, i think im finially ready to start exploring more options for a good cam. the car is a ls1 stock bottom end with 243 heads, FAST 92mm intake and TB, hooker LT headers with a LS7 stock cam. the car has a automatic with stock torque converter and currently is in the process of getting 3:73 gears. the heads have PAC 1218 springs which i believe are good for .600 lift. not really interested in flycutting pistons. also one if my heads has a time cert installed in a rocker arm bolt. and to make matters worse i had to make it bigger because my moron brother drilled the hole too big! so that rocker arm hole is now bigger lol. i plan on doing shaft mount rockers. now i do not drive this car everyday, but close to everyday. what would be my best options?

I normally point people towards Martin Smallwood or Kip Fabre for any and all things cam related. To really take advantage of any camshaft, you will probably need a new torque converter with a higher stall. Something like a 3600, probably.

Do you plan on doing a aftermarket stall?

What are you looking to get out of the build? Are you planning to run an aftermarket stall converter? Do you want to reuse the PAC 1218 springs you already have?

stock stall would be ideal. but not a deal breaker. something to where if i need to drive it on a daily basis its not going to completely be unbearable. as for the PAC 1218 springs, it is what it is, i would like to keep them but i know that really narrows my options down.

Obviously to get real aggressive the stock converter and the springs would need to be addressed, but keeping your stock converter and the PAC 1218s is not an issue. We just have to keep these things in mind when coming up with a recommendation. For your application I recommend taking a look at our Z+221 camshaft. Specs are 221/226,.565/.560,114LSA. This camshaft uses mild lobes that are not harsh on the valvetrain which will allow you to continue to run the PAC 1218s. This camshaft also will allow use of the stock torque converter and retain nice drive-ability with a proper tune. It offers mild idle, and broad power curve.

I think you should buy a spare longblock, and fabricate a turbo system. Before fooling around with any engine mods.

^^^^^ WTF, he just wants a cam, but he should get a complete second engine and put a turbo on it?

OP, I can strongly recommend the EPS 222/226 on 113 lobe centres which would work great with your set up including a stock converter, good driveability (daily if required no problem) and great power through the range.

Geoff can have one ground at .595" lift if your spring limited and he's really helpful and easy to deal with.

Jason.

Go ahead and go bigger. You will kick yourself in the ***** later if you dont. Why go through all that trouble for minimum gain ?
bigger cam and bigger stall and you will be nothing but smiles

Drives it every day almost. About to put some 3.73's into it and open the engine up. not a good idea. I say put the $$ into the transmission /converter / drivetrain overall.

A good converter with stock cam will perform better then a small cam and stock converter.

Keep the PAC 1218's. I've done a lot of cams for mild applications that utilized either LS6/LS3 springs or PAC 1218's with the factory retainers and new one piece locators/valve stem seals.

In these mild applications I've worked with stock stall converters and mild 2800-3200rpm stall converters.

Honestly going to at least a 3000-3200rpm stall will wake the car up a lot, and not adversely affect the driving manners of the combo.

I'd recommend said 3000-3200rpm stall converter and a 220/224 .586/.569 115+2 custom camshaft ground on a 8620 Cam Motion core.

Honestly if you just want some more HP just hit it with some N2O and be done. Cheapest HP you can get and not even heads and a cam will give you anywhere near the same bump in power.

im open to bigger springs and a bigger stall. what is my ideal cam for my mods and what would further aid me in the stall converter department without killing drivability.

How long is a piece of string?

Your question's already been answered several times in this thread with some very good options, how many more do you want? Driveability is different for everyone depending on their individual tolerance levels.
