Default getting ready for the swap, engine question

Hi guys and gals. I have had my LQ4 for almost a year and I am finally getting ready to get it in the car. The engine is a 6.0L from a 2005 Chevy 2500 truck. The recipient is a 1972 monte carlo that currently has a 350 and Muncie 4 speed. I am considering switching over to a 5 or 6 speed during the build. My question for today is what to do to the engine. Currently, it is on my engine stand with heads and intake removed. I do plan to change the cam and I am sure I am going to need to change the oil pan. I wanted to get the cam in, oil pan on and clean and paint it. Should I have anything checked out? I do know that the engine ran fine when removed from the truck with about 120K miles. Do I need to buy new gaskets for everything? ( I read somewhere that they were reusable). My plans for the car are to just drive it, no racing. I plan to put 8000 miles or so per year on it. Any advice is appreciated.

Heads are off, might as well replace head gaskets.

Yes sir. I agree. And I know there are many other things to consider. Today, I am just looking for advice on what I should do to engine to get it ready. Im not looking for 600 hp, just a cruiser that's sounds mean. I want something dependable and I want to have ac, etc. Is Tick Performance the best place to call about a cam?
