I like the stroked 5.3 idea. That is a cool truck, and you could say 'yeah, its got a 383" stroker'. I have not built one personally, but a stroker will make good torque.
I've got a 6.0 block for sale, cheap, but your probably nowhere near me. I can't believe I can't sell it here locally

A stroker isn't required to get to 400HP, but it would no doubt help motivate the heavy truck better with the improved low end torque and horsepower the stroker will offer.

My favorite :
1. A "late" 5.3 Aluminum block@88mm (NOT 89mm)
2. A 4.00" OR a 4.10" Crankshaft with 58x TW
3. A set of 6.125" Rods with good bolts
4. A set Race Tec (Auto Tec) Pistons with NPR Steel Rings
5. A LS-7 (IWIS) single row Timing Chain
6. A 2010 Camaro Oil Pump
Lance

The cost VS HP gained when stroking an engine isn't there. Grab a set of heads and a cam and be done.
Or better yet leave it alone and put a $190 Gt45 on it and it will make twice the power on baby boost and a 100% stock engine.
