Density altitude is the pressure altitude corrected for nonstandard tempature(standard temp is 15C(59F), and a barometric pressure of 29.92)...Density altitude increases as ambient tempature increases...So pretty much if there is a negative DA then your car is acting like its at a track with a elevation lower than sea level...You should be able to run your best times, with a lower DA...Hope this helps ya out...

Go to www.weatherunderground.com and find the recorded info for the date you ran, you can find the records by zip code. Also, you can call the racetrack you ran at to find the elevation of the track.

While there may be other factors at work, I think the 285 cfm is low for a 396. Most heads will lose 25 to 50 cfm with the LS6 intake in place off of the flow numbers. Likewise, a 237 cam is small for a 396 with heads that are at 286 cfm that even loose just 25 cfm with the intake in place ie 260 cfm thru the intake.

Ghetto math suggests just spinning to 6,200 rpm in a 396 with a 237 cam at least 270cfm thru the intake would be needed.

If the flow is 285 cfm without intake on a 4.0 bore the heads are weak by todays standards. What sized valves were used?

If the flow is 285 cfm thru the intake please ignore my post.

The valves used are 202/160. The flow numbers are not through the intake. I still think the car is putting down 430 HP. I am going to have to take it to another dyno and find out. Also, I feel a set of Stage 3 heads will be coming soon. And Long tube headers....

What size cam do you guys think should be in there. This cam rattles my entire house from the driveway????

I have seen heads that flow the numbers but were ported incorrectly. Ie: too much material removed in the wrong places. This "process" can increase flow numbers on the bench but kill power on the actual engine. I am in no way saying that this is definitely your problem, just something to think about. You definitely need a set of kickin stage III heads. You should easily see 500rwhp or darn close with the right head through an M6. 460ish-rwhp with an auto. You can do this even with a relatively small cam...with, again, the right head choice. Good luck brother.

My dyno is fine. I just tuned a bunch of cars this week, and mine which put down 680rwhp on 11psi + alchy. How have you been Dave. I heard you car ran 11.90 when Randall drove it? Ang

Hey Ang,

I am doing good. Got a baby boy due in Oct. How about you? The car ran a 11.90 when Randy took it to WIR. It dead hooked on a street tire. GLD was another story. The car just spun past the 60' and ran a 12.40. Not bad, but something has to be goofy. I cant see a car putting down 390 HP and running 11.90's @ 4200 LBS. What do you think.

Hope all is well with you and the family.

Dave

i just got my 396 stroker straightened out i ended up with a 242 242 .595 .595 112lsa cam, kooks 1.875 x 2 x 3.5 headers and my heads were done locally by a shop and flowed around 305ish at .600 with 2.02 1.57 valves.
final #'s were 458hp 433 tq on the motor and 591hp 615 tq on the bottle.

Thanks for posting those numbers. They look right in line. Would be a little stronger if you had a 2.055 valve (480's). If you are showing 460 through a M6, I should be 430's to 440's. I am missing 30 to 50 Hp and there is no way that is because of long tube. I am going to take a sledge hammer and rework the motor....
