Default Identifying lifters (Johnson 2110 vs 2110R)

I picked up a new set of lifters from the classifies. They are supposedly the 2110R's but they came in an unmarked box with no paperwork so I am wondering how I can verify I got what was advertised?

You can tell by the retaining ring. The "R" lifters use a proprietary c-clip that has tangs. This design superseded the old sheet metal race clip common in Comp lifters, that would pop out during operation and dance around the pushrod.

The standard 2110 just has a regular internal c-clip.

Looks like a genuine Johnson 2110R lifter to me. If you have 15 more - you're good to go!

Those are the regular 2110's. You can tell by the standard retaining ring. Here's a pic of a 2110R. As you can see, the "tangs" on this clip reduce the travel by preloading the piston an additional .050". Like all of our lifters they still require .035" preload.

Here's a pic of the old style "R" clip that our new tanged clip replaced. These were problematic and we stopped using them when we quit selling to Comp.
