LS1 Build
I'm putting together together an LS1 to go into an older carb'd car. My intended use is as a daily driver with the occasional pass at the dragstrip. 99% of the time I will be running in the idle to 3000 rpm range. My highway rpm is 2500@70. I need to be efficient there. My daily commute is 25 miles each way, with 17 or so highway and the rest in town.
I'm starting with an aluminum block from a Camaro, I can't remember exactly what year, about 2000. Casting number is 12559378. Heads are 241's. It came with an 0965 cam, but I figure that's going to go on the scrap pile. I'll be using full length headers, that I don't yet own.
Beyond that, it's open. I'm missing a few basic pieces like the rear block plate, timing cover and oil pan so I'm hunting for deals on that stuff. The things that matter like the intake and cam I would appreciate your input on. I would like to go injection from the beginning, but I can tune a carb within an inch of it's life even though it's not as efficient. Recommneded cam? Emissions are irrelevant, so no cats and it's not going in a stock configuration so things like upgrading the air filter can be built as part of the system.
Would it be best to buy a complete junkyard truck engine with intake, wiring harness and sensors?
More questions to come, I'm sure.
