gasket match intake to head? how?

gasket match intake to head? how? How are people gasket matching their intake manifold to their heads? A "standard" SBC has the gasket that you can lay on both and say "yeah...thats the port size" and work from but with the LS1's rubber o-rings way outside the port area, how does one go about makind sure everything is the same?
you can do a couple things.
you could use that blue machinist spray on the heads and install the intake and see if it leaves the shape of the port marked on the intake.
you could make a template of the head port using carboard or someting like it
What i did was use a nice accurate dial calipers. I measured the width of the my head port and compared it to the LsX port. From there it was easy enough to see how much I needed to remove from each side of the port on the intake by measuring from the edge of the port to the gasket. Just took the difference between the overall widths of the intake and the head and divided it by two and took that number off each side of the port on the intake, once again measuring from edge of port to the gasket.
I've used the carboard template method before as well.
