Well as promised here are the pictures of the heads that came off my truck.

Crack between intake and exhaust valve.

Picture of the pistons. Kinda surprised to see valve reliefs cut for the exhaust valves. I guess these pistons were made for the newer trucks with the vvt, but some made it into the 07 classics that were none vvt.

All of the exhaust ports are a bit light colored. Not sure if I was running too lean, or if this is normal for a truck that tows a lot? What do you guys think. The exhaust valves look like they are too light colored to me as well.

Tracking shows that the 243 heads I purchased from superman22x will be here on Thursday. Hopefully it will all go back together Friday sometime. I have contacted NicD in Phoenix too, and have an appointment on March 4th to get my truck tuned professionally. Right now I'm just running a mail order tune from BBP.

Can anyone tell me if my exhaust valves look alright? They might be normal, but I just want to make sure. The valve stem heights are all the same, so the exhaust valves haven't sunken in or anything. The color and the texture of the valves just have me curious. I'm looking forward to having NicD tune the truck, so I know it's done correctly.

Good deal. Thank you.

My 243 heads should be in on Thursday this week. I plan on having them in the truck by Saturday or Sunday. Going from 9.4:1 to 10.5:1 on compression is obviously going to require a tune (which I have scheduled for March 4th with NicD). Will I be able to drive the truck in the mean time, or should I park it until the tune? I do have to drive about 300 miles to get the tune at minimum. Is there anything I can do to protect the motor from here to there? **** load of octane booster? Lol.

Edit: The highest octane unleaded fuel available to me where I live is 91 octane w/ no ethanol. I can however get 100LL avgas from the airport. I know this low lead 100 octane fuel still contains some lead though. Would it be safe to mix like 12 gallons of 91 octane with 12 gallons of 100LL, to come up with roughly 95-96 octane for the drive down to get my tune with NicD? Thanks.

One more question. Does anyone know where I can get the little thing that plugs onto the canister purge valve? I broke one of the little white plastic clips on the damn thing when I was taking it apart. Here's a picture of it.

Well after I got the heads in the mail, I discovered that they needed new valves. The tips had some wear on the tops that made me nervous, so we lapped new valves in. And we cleaned the heads.

Well it's finally finished. Getting the bolts torqued was a pain in the butt! I need to get a longer 1/2" ratchet. Lol.

Bolts finally torqued.

I'm struggling here to get the video of the dyno tune up. I've never had issues with photobucket downloading videos before, but it doesn't want to for some reason. Either way, it ended up putting down roughly 320 hp and 330 ft/lbs to the rear wheels which ain't too shabby. The torque comes on real quick at 2500 rpms and peaks by 3000 rpms, and holds it all the way to 5000 rpms before it dips off. Without headers and good exhaust I'm leaving quite a bit on the table. So my next to do is headers and exhaust. NicD did a fabulous job tuning the truck, and it runs great. I even picked up 1 mpg. If I can figure out photobucket I'll get a video up soon.
