Exclamation Going from 228/228 to ?????

I currently have a 99 camaro with a 228/228 cam, stock 241 heads, ls6 intake, headers, off road y pipe into a slp muffler, 3:73 gears, 3400 yank convertor, trans cooler, and a few other goodies no nos no forced induction all motor.. I would like to go with a bigger cam but still running a stock bottom end.. I will eventually get a set of ported 243s or 799s in the next month or so.. As far as numbers for those who care, i would like 430+ rwhp and id like to hit about 11.4 in the 1/4..

Are you willing to swap torque converters as well?

You can reach your goals by keeping the cam and put the money towards a killer set of heads and intake... That being said if you are stuck on changing cams then go low lash solid and get something like a 234/240 112.

x2

If my dinosaur LT1 can hit 11.4's with a 224/230 cam and ported lt1 heads then I'd imagine the ported 243's/799's you spoke of should give you the potential to hit your target ET with the cam you already have. A larger converter wouldn't be a terrible idea either.

Not really...just a quality ported stock casting, mild cam, sbe LT1 build. Plenty of LT1's have ran times like that with similar mods. It's a capable platform that has long since been overshadowed by the LS1. Does not mean it can't run hard.

243's in the right hands(TEA, AI, or Livernois) and Fast 92 would do it.

OP, if you still want to go bigger with the cam and/or just want to optimize the combo then I would discuss cam options with whatever head porter you choose. It would be more ideal to have a cam spec'd based upon the heads, headwork, and intake manifold you end up going with rather than going out and getting a new cam first which could potentially leave something on the table, just my .02. Be sure to post up what you decide.

OP, you already have plenty of cam to get to an 11.4 e.t. Focus on a good set of ported 243/799 heads (for an excellent budget head) and a new stall spec'd. You won't even necessarily need a Fast intake to get there, but of course it'll help get you further.

I went 11.07@121 with a 226/234 camshaft in a #3700 car. CNC ported 243 heads and a 4000 stall. The same combo went 11.27 with a 3000 stall.

I see you're in Florida and remember a Buick like yours running at the Clearwater dragstrip with an LS in it a few weeks ago. That would'nt have been you would it?

Most likely. I ran at Showtime a couple weeks ago. Of course, the car is much faster these days.

I work for Cam Motion.

Thats pretty funny, I was there in the 99 camaro in all black with the Center exhaust that couldn't 60' to save my life. I had my car tuned by Jeremy Formato recently and he was actually there that night as well. Small world and your car runs great!
