Default Good cam selection for Bolt on L33

I'm picking up a rebuilt L33 with a set of 799 heads. Engine is going in a 3000lbish Nissan pickup similar to an s-10 with a t-56 and a ford 8.8 rear 3:27 right now but will change gearing if need be.

I'm thinking I'm going to shave the heads 30 thou to get the compression up a bit and throw an intake/headers and supporting mods.
This will be a street driven truck on premium pump gas.

Can you guys give me some good cam selections. I want a nice chop at idle but I'm hoping for a pretty snappy responsive driver.

Liking the looks of the tsp 228r but looking for opinions!

Thanks

When milling your heads .030", you will also be reducing your piston to valve clearance. With tight piston to valve clearance, you limit the amount of room you have for a camshaft that will have a "chop" or "lope" at idle.

When milling the heads .030", the camshaft that I would recommend would be our Titan IV camshaft: http://store.cammotion.com/the-titan4

If you want even more "chop" to the idle, I can make you a custom camshaft of 226/234 on 112 lobe separation angle. That camshaft will have 6 degrees of overlap and provide a nice lope at idle and excellent drivability.

Just to be clear. Overall performance is much more important to me then how it idles. A nasty lope would just be a bonus!

You will need to measure your piston to valve clearance before anything since your heads are milled significantly and you have flat top pistons. 0.030 milled should be around 60cc chambers. If you have adequate clearance, I would say a 220/220 .600/.600 112 LSA (TSP220R) or maybe even a 224/224 .600/.600 112 LSA (TSP224R). I have heard the TSP 228R might be a bit big for a stockish 5.3 but will work. Also, I would stay at or under .600 lift. There really is no need to go over .600 lift since you will not realistically notice any gains unless you are boosting or really high HP engine. It will also be easier on the valvetrain.
