Default Best build/mods advice, 5.3 fairly high budget

that'd be ideal, but with all the other items id have to get to accommodate that power, it would put me way over budget.

There are two companies that make very nice, log style turbo systems for trucks. Get one of those, run a smallish turbo, and be happy. If the stock **** blows up, then build a better short block.

If you stay N/A and insist on that block. Bore it to 3.898 use ls1 Pistons. Use 243 heads and a nnbs intake. If your willing to spend that much tho I'd look into boost. Do forged rods and Pistons. Stud the heads add a cam and go turbo.

If you really want so build a 5.3 and keep it N/A, I would take some 243 heads and port them. The stock valve size is good to upwards of 550hp. For a cam, TSP 224R .600 112 LSA Cam. I would not go larger. A gen 4 can achieve around 500 crank hp and be streetable. If you really want more, go with a larger engine.

No. Turbo as others have said.

You can get a turbo kit and fuel system for less money than you're willing to spend to get 40rwhp.

Let me tell you something... I've spent a lot on my car already. And yes it's fast. And fun to drive. But if I had to do it all over again. I wouldn't buy a damn thing I bought. I'd get a turbo. And run the stock engine, completely untouched. And push it to 600rwhp and live with that until it exploded. Then I'd run a forged shortblock, aftermarket thick deck heads, and get a bigger turbo and run 800-1000rwhp all day long on 93+meth. Right now I'm thiking of doing that, and I'd have to sell almost everything I have in the car, take a loss, and do it. That or a Procharger added to it as it sits and push 650-700rwhp until it explodes.

40rwhp in a truck won't be noticeable. Hell 150rwhp increase in a 3500lbs car isn't noticeable. You get used to it very fast. Spend the money wisely. Don't make the truck shittier to drive. Just make it fast. A 500rwhp turbo kit will make it quick.

Ok, understood. What turbo and fuel system do you recommend?

There are a lot of people with trucks that run the new S369SXE. It'll spool fast and should easily make 500rwhp. You need to upgrade the fuel pump (pick your poison...Walbdo 450?) and get bigger injectors. I would think 60s would be plenty.

http://www.on3performance.com/shop/1...-turbo-system/

For those of us that have thrown a turbo on a stock engine... there is no going back. When trying to convince someone to go turbo because they have more than enough of a budget and they don't want to listen, it's pretty much unfathomable. My $4000 setup (including cost of engine and turbo setup will outrun virtually ANY stock block N/A LS setup out there.

Don't be so stubborn, do it right the first time.

Agreed. I'm thinking of grabbing a V6 Camaro I found, ripping out the motor, throwing a junkyard 6L in there, a 4L80, S60 Spool, and putting an S480 T6 with a 5" downpipe on it. And letting it eat. It'll probably cost $16-17k for the car, motor, trans, rearend, turbo kit, and fuel system and the various accessories. Then another $2-4k in the suspension and drag tires. Gut the SOB. Put a cage in it. And run 9s with a stock motor. Blow it... forge it... and run 8s.

Buy a roller. A local Guy is selling a 7.50 cert 94 firebird with a 98+ front end conversion, 9" rear with spool, bead locks with ET Pros, Full tubular front, all new shocks, the list goes on. $6000.

Do it right and you can be running 9.0s for $10000 total.

That's an even better idea. The cost adds up when you do the cage, rearend, coilovers, etc.
